Help me embrace a little child before it's too late, or save an older person from the horror of that fate. Enable me to be alert to hear the weakest shout and quickly and efficiently to put the fire out I want to fill my calling and to give the best in me; To guard my every neighbor and protect their property. And if according to my fate I am to lose my life this day, Please bless with your protecting hand my family this I pray. Firefighters are men and women that volunteer to put their life on the line each and everyday. This amazing group of people put themselves in harms way to save you and your family. They put their life at risk so you don't have to. It takes a special person to do this. They volunteer to rush into a burning building to save the lives of complete strangers. In small towns, volunteer firefighters may not need to be present at the firehouse at any given time but instead carry an emergency- call radio where they can be reached if a fire or an emergency ensues. As they are contacted, they either congregate at the station or drive on their own to the site and join the truck and other volunteers. The intense training and high level of stress they put on themselves in addition to the risk of danger for nothing in return, makes these men and women true heros. To report a situation requiring a police officer at the scene. To summon an ambulance for medical assistance. To report a fire. To report acrime in progress. When you see suspicious activity. (Examples include: alarms, shots fired, breaking glass, shouts for help, or an unfamiliar person carrying items froma house.) TTY users: please press the space bar or any key when you connect to 911.
